Gandhigiri : Now at AIIMS, against health Minister

By on October 11th, 2006

Doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have taken their long-running tussle with Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss to a new level.

As he visited AIIMS to review the medical facilities at the premier hospital where nearly 175 dengue patients are admitted, the doctors brought roses and posted placards near the hostels wishing him a speedy recovery.

“Our protest against Ramadoss is based on the rules laid down by Gandhiji; it is based on his satyagrah. We want to welcome Ramadoss with flowers. The way he is behaving, it seems that he is mentally ill, and we want to wish him -get well soon,” says Dr Kaushal.

The doctors were expressing their protest against the late arrival of Ramadoss to AIIMS after the outbreak of dengue. Even the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visited the hospital before the Health Minister.

Accompanied by AIIMS Director P Venugopal, Ramadoss took a round of the new private ward on the third floor, which has been converted into an emergency wing to treat dengue cases, and met patients inquiring about their condition.

He also visited the casualty ward where some dengue patients are being treated. He spent almost an hour at the hospital.

Besides Venugopal, the Minister was accompanied by hospial Medical Superintendent D K Sharma and other doctors.

The AIIMS doctors have been at loggerheads with the Health Minister since the protests over the OBC reservation in the institutes of higher learning.

Gandhigiri : Karan Johar also decide to do gandhigiri

By on October 9th, 2006

Karan Johar is contemplating dropping the letter ‘K’! No, not from his name, but his whole fixation with the alphabet in the creative light of things.

And it’s not a tarot reader or an astrologer who has advised him to do so. “When I walked out of the cinema after watching Lage Raho Munna Bhai in New York, I thought I should drop the K. It was the effect the film had on me. It inspires you to tell the truth and fills you with inspiration. So, if I do drop the K, it will be courtesy Munna Bhai and this is the first time I am saying this!”says Karan who is currently in London.

Gandhigiri : LRMB Producer decides to do Gandhigiri against Modi in Gujarat

By on October 6th, 2006

Taking a leaf out of his own film, Lage Raho Munna Bhai , producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra is toying with the idea of using Gandhigiri on Modi’s government in Gujarat, which is sitting over a proposal to give the film tax sops in the birth-place of Bapu.

Chopra said he intends to stand outside the Sachivalay in Gandhinagar and distribute roses to government officials till the state government waives entertainment tax.

In his movie, protagonist Munnabhai wears down a stubborn builder, Lucky Singh, by flooding him with flowers over a case of illegal eviction of inmates from an old-age home.

“With folded hands I am ready to stand outside the Sachivalay at Gandhinagar and distribute roses to all and sundry who enter the building till the government extends tax exemptions for my film in Gujarat,” Chopra told TOI.

“We have been following up our case in Gujarat but for the past many weeks our enquiries are being brushed aside by saying ‘the file is being processed’.

This has led me to believe that Munnabhai’s satyagraha is the only answer to bureaucratic hurdles. Most states in the country have promptly exempted the film from tax on grounds that it promotes Gandhian ideals.
