Lage Raho Munnabhai is the first film to portray the philosophies of Mahatma Gandhi with a comical twist. TIMES NOW caught up with Bapuji’s great grandson Tushar Gandhi to find out what he felt about the “Gandhigiri” portrayed in the film.

“I thoroughly enjoyed it and I feel that it’s one of the best tributes, not only to the man but his philosophies. I was very moved. As a matter of fact, I’ve started referring to Gandhivad as Gandhigiri since I watched the film,” said Tushar.

Lage Raho Munnabhai went where no one else has dared to tread, a movie on Bapuji made in the comic genre. Tushar also felt it was a risky concept, but felt that the risk had payed off.

“I didn’t think anyone would be adventurous enough to do that. But I think the comedy genre has served Bapu much better than some of the more serious films. This was required; people had to realise that there was a practical aspect to what he said. This film has marvelously shown that,” he said.

Bapuji’s great grandson feels the Gandhigiri Phenomenon can and will catch on, more so with the younger generation who identify more with the Munnabhai brand of humour than the serious tone usually associated with Gandhiji’s ideology.
